For Guanzon, it's the schoolchildren's welfare that's at stake, since the outages are occurring in the middle of summer. "20 hours na walang electricity in Mindoro ? Hinimatay na mga [estudyante] sa [init] ," she tweeted over the weekend.Reports said that residents of Occidental Mindoro have been pestered by daily 20-hour blackouts for over a month now.

The Occidental Mindoro Consolidated Power Corp. has not been able to supply enough power to its service area. Guanzon, a former Commission on Elections commissioner, has been a consistent critic of the Marcos administration.
