LEAMINGTON, Millard County — A large wildfire burning southwest of Leamington in Millard County is now threatening several structures. The incident is prompting response efforts from more than a dozen fire agencies — both attacking the flames from the ground and in the air.
The Wild Horse Fire sparked around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It was estimated at 400 acres with 0% containment and was continuing to grow, according to Utah Fire Info. The fire has burned onto state and public lands. New 🔥 Start: #WildHorseFire SW of Leamington.

Officials said gusty winds and steep, rocky terrain are making conditions challenging for crews to get a good handle on the fire in some areas.
Initially, the agency said no structures were at risk, but in an update just before 7 p.m, approximately 10 structures in the Fool Creek area "could potentially be threatened.
"Multiple power lines in the area are also within the fire's sight, so crews have de-energized them for public and firefighter safety. Crews anticipate they will be re-energized within 2 hours, according to Utah Fire Info. Evacuations have not been ordered as the fire is moving away from the community. But road closures are in effect for Leamington Pass and Fool Creek Roads.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. This story may be updated.
