Stronger laws to tackle cyberbullying needed, says social activist

MANILA: The police formed a special body to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two Australian nationals and a Filipina in a hotel in Tagaytay City, Cavite on Wednesday (July 10).

KUALA LUMPUR: Addressing cyberbullying requires a multi-pronged approach, including strengthening legislation and creating more awareness through education, says Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye .

"Introduce comprehensive cyberbullying laws that clearly define and penalise various forms of online harassment and bullying in Malaysia, including specific provisions for different types of cyberbullying such as cyberstalking and online hate speech. "The formation of a Cybercrime Department as announced by the Inspector-General of Police earlier this year is a step in the right direction," he said.
