A wind advisory issued for the Big Island of Hawaii warns residents of strong winds that could make everyday tasks challenging. The National Weather Service also issued high surf and marine weather advisories due to dangerous waves and swells.

A wind advisory issued for parts of the Big Island of Hawaii on Thursday warns residents of potentially strong winds that could make tasks like opening doors difficult. Meteorologists anticipate winds blowing from the west to northwest at speeds of 40 to 55 mph, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph, comparable to tropical storm strength.

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Honolulu issued the advisory, urging caution for travelers and drivers, particularly those operating high-profile vehicles. \The NWS also issued a high surf advisory for east-facing shores, warning of dangerous breaking waves that could pose a threat to swimmers and surfers. Mariners were advised to exercise caution while entering or leaving port due to a medium-period northeast swell producing light to moderate surges in north-facing harbors. These strong winds follow a rare winter storm that brought heavy rainfall across the Hawaiian Islands last week, prompting flood-related weather alerts. \NWS meteorologist Tina Stall told Newsweek that there doesn't appear to be any further threat of strong winds in the immediate forecast after the advisory expires. The advisory recommends postponing travel to the summits until conditions improve and advises those who must travel to use extra caution while walking and driving. Residents are also urged to be careful when opening or closing doors and to secure any outdoor objects. The wind advisory is expected to expire by 6 p.m. local time Thursday evening. Looking ahead, Hawaii is predicted to experience above-average temperatures and a chance of above-average precipitation over the next two weeks, according to the NWS Climate Prediction Center's eight- to 14-day outlooks
