) - Major Hurricane Melissa is making it turn towards Jamaica as a potentially catastrophic storm. As of early evening, winds were at 175 mph sustained with a pressure of 906 mb, making it a Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale.
Melissa is most likely going to directly impact the central and western side of Jamaica as it crosses the island on Tuesday. It will also potentially make an impact on eastern Cuba as a major hurricane by Tuesday night. We do not expect any impacts here due to Melissa. Locally, some dry air has moved in temporarily. We will see temperatures in the mid-70s with partly cloudy skies on Tuesday. A strong front will come through Tuesday night with a few passing showers. Most of those will be gone by daybreak Wednesday morning.
