The K9 will make her first appearance Tuesday afternoon at a special press conference.
Mika’s story begins 20 years ago when Twinsburg Police Officer Joshua Miktarian began his new assignment as a K-9 officer with German Shepherd Bagio.
Officer Miktarian’s time was tragically cut short when he was gunned down in the line of duty 15 years ago on July 13, 2008.One of Officer Miktarian’s dreams was to see a future generation of Bagio pups. So, when Holly’s German Shepard Nala gave birth to that next generation in May 2023, it was decided that one of those girls would fulfill Officer Miktarian’s dream.“Thanks to the generosity of Holly and Thea, the Streetsboro community is happy to accept this amazing donation,” Streetsboro police said. “Mika has big paws to fill but carries the legacy of her father with her.
Mika recently finished K-9 training with Halo K-9 Training Academy, crushing her state certifications and now being fully recognized as a police K9. The addition of puppy Mika to the Streetsboro PD makes my daughter and I very proud. It’s been 15 years since we lost Josh who was a husband, father, friend to many and a Twinsburg K9 Police Officer. Josh and his K9 partner Bagio had such an incredible bond. Josh loved him so much he obtained the assistance of Animal Clinic Northview so Bagio’s legacy could live on through another generation. And now more than 17 years after he began the process, Josh’s dream has come true.
