The top global streaming services include Netflix , Prime Video , Disney+ , and HBO Max , and many services are seeing big upticks in their revenue numbers. Leading the charge, Netflix has raised its subscription prices again, and many other companies are following suit.

According to a new survey from Ampere Analysis, and cited by The Hollywood Reporter, framed as "a major milestone," streaming subscription revenue surpassed $150 billion for the first time in 2025, up from $50 billion in 2020. Looking forward, global streaming subscription revenue is projected to break $200 billion in 2030. Companies are continuing to expand into more international markets, but there is a big increase in, "focusing on monetization through price increases and the rollout of ad-supported tiers, particularly in mature markets." Essentially, companies are focusing on how to most successfully monetize their content, beyond just pure subscription-growth models. The three primary drivers for this revenue surge between 2020 and 2025 are price realization , ad-tier scaling, and bundling subscriptions. And through all this, having already seen a tripling in revenue from 2020-2025, revenue is projected to continue to rise. In this framing, the United States contributes roughly half of global streaming subscription revenue. This implies that moving forward, although the US has a smaller share of global household members, companies will continue to focus on maximizing revenue through pricing methods and package mixes versus simply increasing subscriber scales. Recent price increases suggest that there is still room for platforms like Netflix and Disney to keep pushing higher. Across the industry, subscription prices have risen. A major driver behind these increases is the growing investment in live sports and event programming, long considered to be one of cable's strongest assets. Post-pandemic, the market has been featuring slower subscriber growth. However, streaming passed broadcast and cable viewership back in May 2025. Streaming accounted for 44.8% of viewership, while broadcast TV has 20.1% and cable had 24.1%. This coupled with the rise of streaming like YouTube and other similar content, suggests streaming is clearly the future. For viewers, the shift towards profitability is already visible. As subscriber growth slows, platforms are increasingly relying on higher prices, ad-supported tiers, and bundled offerings to drive revenue. This means more expensive plans, fewer password-sharing options, and streaming services that are continuing to replace the cable model.
