Eleven looking concerned in Stranger Things season 4 episode 9

Stranger Things season 5 is officially breaking a series-long episode tradition with a big change behind-the-scenes compared to previous seasons. Stranger Things season 5 will be the last batch of episodes for the Netflix series, concluding the story of Hawkins, Indiana and its characters' battle against forces in the Upside Down.

The end of Stranger Things season 4 offered a major cliffhanger, with the characters watching a storm symbolizing a merging between Earth and the alternate dimension. It also teased just how many challenges the group will have to face as their battle to save the world finally ends. While the series was created by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, there have been many episodes of Stranger Things that have been directed by people on the larger team. Although most episodes are directed by the Duffer Brothers, they have many long-time collaborators who have been consistently contributing to the series. Season 5 is no different, with some familiar names sitting in the director's chair, alongside some new ones as well. But there's one director who won't be involved in as many episodes as usual for the final season. Shawn Levy Isn't Directing Episodes 3 & 4 Of Stranger Things Season 5 Levy Has Directed Episodes 3 & 4 Of Every Season Of The Show Close One director who has been a mainstay on the team is Shawn Levy, best known for his work on movies like Night at the Museum, The Adam Project, and Deadpool & Wolverine. In terms of his work on Stranger Things, he has directed episodes 3 and 4 of every season of the show since the very start. This includes the critically acclaimed season 4, episode 4,"Chapter Four: Dear Billy," which was considered one of the best TV episodes of 2022 by several outlets. His contributions have been a major part of the series, including some of its best episodes. However, despite being one of the Duffer brothers' frequent collaborators, Levy will not be directing episodes 3 and 4 of Stranger Things season 5. Season 5, episode 3,"The Turnbow Trap," will be directed by Frank Darabont, his first for the series, while season 5, episode 4,"Sorcerer," will be headed by the Duffer Brothers. Considering how consistently Levy has been the director for those episodes each season, this break in tradition means those episodes may feel different from their predecessors. However, Levy's presence in the show isn't gone for good. Shawn Levy Will Still Direct One Episode Of Stranger Things Season 5 Levy Will Still Be Involved In The Netflix Series Speaking with Collider at CinemaCon in April 2024, Levy confirmed that he will be coming back to direct one episode of Stranger Things season 5. This isn't too surprising given the longevity his relationship with the series has been, and how much of a mainstay his directing style has become since the very beginning. However, unlike his usual stint of directing episodes 3 and 4, he'll instead be tackling an episode from later in the season. Related Stranger Things Season 5 Must Fix A Tragic Season 4 Mistake That Could Ruin The Show's Ending Season 4 of Stranger Things made a frustrating mistake that could easily negatively affect the Netflix sci-fi horror show’s final season. Posts As of writing, only two directors have been confirmed for the final season. Darabont will be directing episode 3, as well as episode 5,"Shock Jock," while the Duffer Brothers will be directing episodes 1, 2, 4, and 8. This leaves episode 6,"Escape from Camazotz," and episode 7,"The Bridge," as the only episodes whose directors haven't been confirmed yet. This means Levy is the director for one of these episodes, although it's impossible to discern which one he tackled during production. While Levy not directing Stranger Things season 5, episodes 3 and 4 is a big departure from the show's behind-the-scenes tradition, his involvement isn't disappearing. It also means his directorial skills will be applied to a more climactic episode this time around instead of something in the middle of the season. Depending on how the upcoming events unfold, this could be the perfect way for him to flex the skills he's learned directing a decade of high-profile theatrical releases, translating that success to the series.Your Rating close 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Rate Now 0/10 Leave a Review Your comment has not been saved Like Follow Followed Stranger Things Fantasy Horror Drama 8/10 354 9.2/10 Release Date 2016 - 2025-00-00 Showrunner Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer Directors Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer Writers Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer, Paul Dichter, Kate Trefry Cast See All Inspired by 80s pop-culture and elements of Stephen King's works, Stranger Things is a supernatural action-drama TV series set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. When a young boy goes missing, his group of friends stumbles upon a young girl with telekinetic powers who recently escaped from a mysterious facility. They soon realize that she may be their only chance at stopping an impending doom that threatens to engulf Hawkins whole.
