Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven crying while speaking to Mike in Stranger Things series finale

The Duffer Bros share that Millie Bobby Brown has her definitive response about Eleven’s fate in the Stranger Things finale, but there is bad news. After nine years, the hit Netflix show has finally concluded, but debate continues over Eleven’s ambiguous ending.

The Stranger Things series finale saw Eleven sacrificing herself so that the government won’t weaponize her again as one of the remaining connections to the Upside Down and Vecna. Despite what everyone saw, Mike suggested his own theory that Eleven planned an illusion of her death with Kali’s help, so that she could live life in peace and freely. While speaking on Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, the Duffer Bros spoke about her fate, doubling down on the notion that it’s up to viewers to choose what happened to her. When pressed if they have their own interpretation, Matt Duffer responded that “So I don’t know what the answer is. This is ambiguous. I mean, you’re writing from a point of view of understanding what the truth is and the reality is... but yeah Ross and I know and we were just talking to Millie about it, but I think it takes away the power of the ending if you tell people what you were thinking as you were writing it.” Later on, Matt Duffer confirmed that Brown has her own definitive answer about Eleven’s fate, but warned that “she’s not going to tell you either. Don’t waste your time.” He then elaborated that “Millie swore herself to secrecy” before Ross Duffer realized that her co-star and best friend, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, may know. Matt Duffer texted Brown in the middle of the interview to make sure she didn’t tell Schnapp, and quickly got a response: “I said, ‘Don’t tell Noah,’ and she said, ‘Of course not.’ She knows better. She knows. She knows. We all know and love Noah, but we do not trust him with secrets related to the show.” Schnapp is the godfather to Brown’s daughter, whom she adopted last year. Since the show’s conclusion a few days ago, cast members like Gaten Matarazzo and Natalie Dyer, who portray Dustin Henderson and Nancy Wheeler, respectively, have spoken about their Stranger Things characters’ fate and their general thoughts leading up to the series finale. While Brown conducted interviews before season 5’s release, the star missed the series finale viewing party due to a shoulder injury. However, she made an appearance at a theater in Naples, Florida, to thank the audience, as the Stranger Things finale had a special theatrical release on December 31 and January 1 nationwide. In addition, she shared a brief goodbye post on her Instagram, saying “Over and out.” Still, Brown remains one of the few stars who have yet to speak about the Netflix show’s conclusion and, more importantly, her thoughts on Eleven’s fate. Although Brown has been quiet about the matter, people online have been rediscovering her response before season 5 premiered. This includes one circulating clip of the actor when asked if she was happy with her character’s ending, responding with an awkward nod and smile. It has led to comparisons to Emilia Clarke’s infamous “best season ever” reaction from six years ago when Game of Thrones ended with season 8. On the other hand, Eleven’s ending has been met with mixed reception from audiences, with some even expressing frustration with the lack of certainty in light of the Duffer Bros' explanation. It’s expected that Brown will, at some point, discuss matters about the Stranger Things ending, although it’s clear that any response about Eleven’s fate will be tight-lipped. Several spinoffs are in development, including Stranger Things: Tales from '85, which is expected to be released sometime this year. Brown finished filming Enola Holmes 3, which is slated to come out this year on Netflix. 616 9.1/10 8/10 Stranger Things 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-14 Drama Mystery Horror Science Fiction Release Date 2016 - 2025-00-00 Network Netflix Showrunner Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer Directors Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer, Andrew Stanton, Frank Darabont, Nimród Antal, Uta Briesewitz Writers Kate Trefry, Jessie Nickson-Lopez, Jessica Mecklenburg, Alison Tatlock 7 Images Close Cast See All
