The 52-year-old Malaysian's earlier attempt to fly out of India ended in him being stranded at Bangalore on Tuesday as air travel was disrupted on the India-Malaysia route due to new Indian coronavirus measures.
Jaspreet Kaur and her mother-in-law Amarjet Kaur abruptly ended their Amritsar trip in Punjab and sought out information from the Malaysian mission. Chinniah P. Arumugam, aged 65, said his group of 19 Malaysian tourists were booked on a Malindo Air flight, but when their flight was cancelled they bought Malaysia Airlines tickets, only to be informed later that the MAS services were also suspended.
The Malaysian budget carrier also operated an evacuation flight from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh state to Kuala Lumpur with 24 passengers. "No one could foresee the coronavirus situation. We will try to help Malaysian citizens as much as we can. We have implemented the Covid-19 guidelines from Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and the Malaysian government," Hidayat said.
