Tragedy struck the Stow community on Monday night when two individuals were found dead from gunshot wounds. Police identified the victims as Benjamin Asiedu and Latoia Philpott, who had been dating for over a year. The investigation determined that Philpott, a mother of five, was shot multiple times in a homicide, while Asiedu, a sheriff's deputy, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, classified as a suicide. The Summit County Sheriff's Office, along with Victim’s Assistance and Children’s Services, are providing support to the surviving families.

Stow police are investigating a homicide-suicide that occurred Monday night. On Monday, just before 4 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 4100 block of Meadowlark Trail after family members discovered the scene, police said. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals who had fatal gunshot wounds. On Tuesday, Stow police sent an update identifying the deceased as Benjamin Asiedu and Latoia Philpott. The police said the two had been dating for a little over a year.

Police said Philpott was shot multiple times, and her death was ruled a homicide. Asiedu died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a suicide. Stow police said Philpott was a mother of five, while Asiedu had one daughter. The surviving family was assisted by Summit County Victim’s Assistance and Summit County Children’s Services. According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, Asiedu was a sheriff's deputy assigned to the jail. He was hired in 2023.
