Michael Benneman Sams, born on August 11, 1941, is an English kidnapper, extortionist and murderer. He gained infamy in 1991 when he kidnapped and murdered Julie Dart.
This is where his life of crime began. In 1976 he was put in prison for stealing a car and making a false insurance claim. During his time in prison, Sams was diagnosed with cancer, which led to one of his legs being amputated. Sams murdered Julie with a hammer after forcing her to write notes. Nine days later the body was found dumped in a field in Easton, Lincolnshire. Following some psychiatric advice, it was determined that because a ransom success was very unlikely, Sams was looking to be caught.
The ransom was paid and Slater was released. Police were hoping to catch Sams when he went to pick up the ransom, however, he was able to develop a plan to avoid this.
