Baroness Angela Smith, the shadow leader of the House of Lords, suggested Labour would have done a better job."There has got to be some movement - at the end of the day the institutions have to go back, that has to happen," she said. When asked would a Labour-led government force the Democratic Unionist Party to return to power-sharing, Baroness Smith said: "You just have to have some discussions.
"I was a direct rule minister , I was told it could be two or three months and I'd come back to my job, I was there for three-and-a-half years," Baroness Smith said. "There has to be a way forward in the interest of Northern Ireland, you can't just have decisions being made in London."Former Shadow NI Secretary Peter Kyle, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Baroness Angela Smith, held talks with Stormont leaders in January
