An NI Assembly committee has for the first time heard evidence conducted entirely through the medium of Irish.In 2021, MLAs agreed to set upBut this was the first time members heard committee evidence from witnesses delivered in Irish, and translated into English.
In 2022, the High Court ruled that the Northern Ireland Executive had continued to breach a legal obligation to implement the strategy.Dr Pádraig Ó Tiarnaigh told the committee it was important a strategy was "hurried along" Assembly Speaker Edwin Poots also hosted an event at Stormont on Thursday to mark Irish Language Week.
The Department for Communities has responsibility for Irish language and Ulster-Scots strategies, but they will need to be approved by the executive.
