After the bomb cyclone ripped through Washington State, an animal sanctuary was left with a costly clean up and urgent repairs.was hit hard by the storm that impacted the region, as of last night when KOMO 4 News spoke with Executive Director Mark Takehara the sanctuary was still without power.

"There is significant damage to both our fencing as well as some of our housing for our animals and that is impacting the animals safety." Said Takehara. Pasado’s Safe Haven is an 85 acre sanctuary that's home to about 200 animals. They are a non-profit that investigates animal cruelty and provides sanctuary and rehabilitation to animals who have suffered from abuse and neglect. They advocate for better laws to protect animals and work to educate the public about how they can help end animal cruelty.

"We have lots of trees and branches down, with damage to Dog Towne, Big Pig Yard, and our Aviary. Our team has already made temporary repairs so the animals can be let out of their barns. We also began the daunting task of clearing the countless fallen trees and debris across our 85-acre sanctuary." Said Takehara.

"With a significant amount of fencing to fix and tree removals, we are estimating unexpected costs of more than $14,000. In addition to this massive repair bill, we need to get a backup generator for our Healing Barn. During extended power outages like this, we must be able to care for the animals in recovery, keep medications refrigerated, and operate lab equipment. This estimated cost is an additional $15,000." Said Takehara.
