In the wake of a devastating storm that swept through the area from 23 to 25 September 2023, theis working diligently to mend a crucial pipeline – the 300mm diameter water main supply in Kloof Road, Camps Bay.
The impact of this storm was felt far and wide, as it left a trail of destruction, and one of its casualties was the water supply to the neighborhoods of Camps Bay, Bantry Bay, Fresnaye, and Sea Point.Water supply main damage The damage to the water main was no ordinary mishap. It occurred when the relentless torrential downpour led to the subsidence of the embankment, culminating in a large tree crashing onto the exposed pipeline.
This unfortunate incident resulted in an abrupt disruption of water supply, sending shockwaves through the affected areas.“The Water and Sanitation maintenance team was quick to respond. They temporarily rerouted the water supply through an alternate pipeline to ensure residents had access to this essential resource.
“This interim solution managed to sustain the communities, but recent rising temperatures have caused an increased demand for water that’s beginning to surpass the available supply,” said the City.The situation necessitated not just repairs but a comprehensive overhaul of the damaged pipeline. The technical team has been hard at work planning for the replacement of the pipeline.
