The Stonewall Democrats of San Antonio are defending their decision to invite Sheriff Javier Salazar to their Pride kickoff event later this month.
faced so much backlash in their announcement that Sheriff Javier Salazar would be attending their Pride kickoff event that they had to post a public apology, doubling down on their decision.that Salazar — along with several other local public officials — would attend their kickoff Pride event on June 23 at Heat Nightclub."The irony of a group calling itself 'Stonewall' yet inviting law enforcement to participate," one person on Instagram commented.
"We acknowledge that there are valid concerns and questions about why we involve law enforcement in our events," the organization's co-chairs, Daniel Pacheco and Jezzika Lee Perez, wrote."However, it is important to recognize that not all law enforcement personnel are insensitive to the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community."
