Officers arrested a man matching the description of the suspect in multiple vehicle burglaries while he was allegedly rummaging through unlocked cars.

The Lantana Police Department said they responded to a call at 2 a.m. on Tuesday where they said they met a man who told officers he confronted a car burglar and that individual took off on foot northbound on North Atlantic Drive near Hypoluxo Island, in Lantana.

The victim described the car burglar to officers, who said they recognized the description as matching a suspect that committed multiple vehicle burglaries on South Atlantic Drive on Nov. 26, and multiple vehicle burglaries in Manalapan on the same day. Little did Fontaine know he was headed down a dead end, with the ocean surrounding on all sides. The responding units reported creating a perimeter, canvassing the area, and using a drone to locate the subject rummaging through additional cars with a flashlight. After hopping multiple fences and evading officers, LPD says officers were able to apprehend the man, who was identified as Patrick Fontaine, in a backyard without incident.

Officers reported finding sunglasses, 180 Euros, 138 U.S. dollars, a large quantity of U.S. coins, Starbucks gift cards, Target gift cards, two flashlights, and a small amount of Xanax, according to Fointaine's affidavit.Fontaine was booked and accused of seven counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, four counts of larceny, one count of possession of a controlled substance, and seven counts of possession of burglary tools with the intent to use.
