Stolen car rams Chula Vista police car, slams into home during chase [Breaking]
A driver rammed a stolen car into a police vehicle then smashed through a fence and into a bedroom inside a Chula Vista home early Monday morning, police said.
Police are still looking for the driver, who ditched his passenger — a woman and a dog — and took off running. The incident started about 1:30 a.m. when police tried to pull over the car near the Chula Vista Marina, Chula Vista police Lt. Gino Grippo said. The driver sped off, leading officers on a short chase that wound up at the end of Arizona Street, a cul-de-sac off Broadway. The driver stopped. The pursing officer got out with his gun drawn and using his car door for protection.
The driver threw the stolen car into reverse and slammed into the police vehicle at a speed “significant enough to cause damage to the patrol car,"Grippo said. The officer scrambled out of the way.Then the driver raced the car forward, mowing down a fence and plowing into the back of a home on a neighboring street.“I heard some noises in the backyard, and two seconds later I heard a crash into my bedroom,” Hernandez told OnScene TV.Hernandez saw the driver get out.
