Stocks rose at the open as sentiment was lifted by stronger-than-expected corporate earnings and solid economic data out of China.
div > div.group > p:first-child"> The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 31 points higher, while the S&P 500 gained 0.3%. The Nasdaq Composite outperformed, advancing 0.6%. The Nasdaq 100 — which is made up of the 100 largest companies in the composite index — hit an intraday record high.
Other companies that reported better-than-expected earnings include Netflix, United Airlines and Interactive Brokers. Economic data out of China also boosted optimism on Wall Street. The Chinese economy grew by 6.4% in the first quarter of 2019, topping a Refinitiv estimate of 6.3%. Industrial production also surged 8.5% in March, surging past a 5.9% forecast.
