Clement faces a huge task overcoming an early seven-point gap on Celtic but still has four competitions to fight for.
Steven Whittaker insists Philippe Clement has plenty of time to turn round Rangers’ season - but only if he gets off to a flier. The Belgian has a massive job on his hands as he looks to eat into Celtic’s seven-point Premiership lead.
“He will need to start fast of course which is difficult if he has a different style which he wants to get the players to adapt to. But hopefully they can hit the ground running and try to close the gap a little bit. The semi final, they are the big games you are expected to win at Rangers. If he can do that and get the fans behind him with the performances and the players on side then that will only put him in a better place. It’s about momentum, winning games and staying on that run.
“There’s been a lot of turnaround and new faces. That’s going to be the hard bit for him. He’s dealing with players that might not be suited to his style whatever he chooses to do with that. That’s where managers need time and a couple of windows to get players in and out to fit their way of playing and their way of trying to win football matches. Hopefully with what he’s got he can make it work in the short term.
