According to actor Seth Rogen, director Steven Spielberg was very emotional on set while filming his autobiopic, The Fabelmans. Highly regarded as one of the most influential directors of modern cinema, Spielberg has cemented his career through nearly half a century of creating both commercially and critically successful films, such as Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schindler's List, and many more.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with THR, Rogen, who stars in the film, describes the emotional journey he witnessed Spielberg go through while directing The Fabelmans. Pointing out the moments that would stir up these emotions, Rogen notes on how it was easy to see how much the film meant to him. Check out the full quote below:
He would cry a lot, openly. We’d show up on set and he would just see a certain piece of wardrobe or a certain piece of set dec[oration] or everyone coming together to recreate a certain thing. I saw him cry dozens of times throughout filming the movie, which was actually very beautiful and I think made everyone want to really honor what he was doing. You saw how much it meant to him and how truthful he was being.
Spielberg's ability to go into a more personal story than he has before is a testament to the fact that, even at his current stage as a filmmaker, he is still uncovering parts of his life that he can use in his works. By telling a story loosely based on his childhood, he is not only retelling events as he remembers them, but also reflecting on them and allowing audiences to understand how they ultimately shaped what his career became.
With The Fabelmans already receiving critical acclaim and winning the People's Choice Award at TIFF, it appears that Spielberg has found a way to resonate with audiences once again. Only this time, instead of just resonating with his ideas, viewers are able to resonate with his life itself. Many directors take their personal lives as inspiration for their works, but Spielberg centering an entire film around his own shows the amount of care he had towards telling it.
