The Scotland boss is not getting carried away as his squad look close to reaching the finals in Germany
Steve Clarke last night swatted away the notion that his Scotland side has already got one boot planted in Germany 2024.
“This is another opportunity for us to add to our total so far. So I don’t agree with that. We’ve been working on getting better game by game from day one. It’s something we’ve always done, just tried to improve all the time. I said after Euros 2020 that we’d improve as a group and I think we’ve done that. But I still feel there is more improvement to come.
And Clarke believes his players are ready to seize the moment as they close in on straight qualification. He went on: “After the last Euros I said we would improve again. That was because of the ability, determination and desire to do well for their country- and a feeling they could do their country proud.
The holiday isle of Cyprus is still baking in the remnants of a ferocious summer heat wave with temperature at kick off time tonight expected to be touching 30 degrees even though the local time will be quarter to ten.
