I will be watching but I will not be showing up. That is off the cards. Yeah, it's just a new thing and there's really no reason for for my character to show up in something like that. But I'm excited about it. It sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea. I guess it's set in a failing newspaper company. And I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads. I did The Patient with him, and he's an excellent actor, and a super nice guy. So I think it'll be great.
Given that it is the same mockumentary crew that followed Dunder Mifflin, there is some definite commentary to be made about the dangers of trying to recapture old magic. The crew could be trying to recreate a Jim and Pam dynamic, for instance, only to find that their efforts are not working. Jenna Fischer, who played Pam, has also said that she has not been approached about the project. It might be the case that the goal is to establish the new show before relying on any familiar cameos.
The official synopsis reveals more about the focus of the forthcoming reboot, confirming the premise will be around a legacy newspaper. The reboot begins with the same documentary team from the Carell series. Described as tireless and intrepid, “the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch” finds itself in search of a new subject to focus on.
