King and Peter Straub previously co-wrote The Talisman and Black House, which are connected to The Dark Tower books, and both authors teased a third novel for years. Straub passed away in 2022, but King revealed in 2024 that work had begun on a third installment based on an idea Straub shared before his death. The title was later announced to be Other Worlds Than These, which is a reference to an important line that Jake Chambers says in the first Dark Tower book, The Gunslinger. On his official website, King has now shared that the release date for Other Worlds Than These is October 6, 2026. On BlueSky, King also shared a picture of himself captioned "Return to the Territories--also known as Mid-World--this October." In the picture, he is wearing a T-shirt with the symbol of Ka on it, which is an essential concept related to destiny in The Dark Tower books.
