Among the new players that were signed by Pirates ahead of the 2023/24 season was Buthelezi from TS Galaxy after the remarkable progress he made with the team.The 25-year-old is yet to feature as Sipho Chaine remains the first choice in coach Jose Riveiro’s team, with Richard Ofori appearing to be the second choice.

Former Pirates goalkeeper Thabani Stemmer has advised Buthelezi to be patient while waiting for his chance at the Soweto giants. “He has to wait for his chance. Goalkeeping is that kind of a position where only one player can play at a time while others have to wait for their chance. He is a new signing who has just joined Pirates from another team and he needs to get used to how things are being done at the club. Coming from a small team and to a big club can be a challenge at times and it can take a bit of time for one to get used to the adjustment.
