The Patriots will release Stefon Diggs from the team following his split from Cardi B and recent legal issues swirl around the wide receiver
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported via X on Wednesday, March 4, that the team informed Diggs, 32, that he will be released “after the start of the league year next week.” “Stefon Diggs had an additional $6 million set to become fully guaranteed next week Friday,” Pelissero wrote in a subsequent tweet.
“The Patriots didn’t want to drag him along and informed him today they’re moving on, giving him a jump start. He’ll be released next Wednesday.” Diggs began his NFL career after being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015. After four seasons with the Vikings, the wide receiver was traded to the Buffalo Bills where he played from 2020 to 2023. The following year, Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans whom he played for one season. Last year, Diggs signed a three-year $63.5 million contract with the Patriots. During his time with New England, Diggs led the team in receiving yards, earning 1,013 yards on 85 receptions and four touchdowns. The Patriots made it to Super Bowl LIX last month where they ultimately lost to the Seattle Seahawks. News of Diggs’ departure from the Patriots comes one month after the football player split from Cardi B days before the Super Bowl. “They are always so up and down. This isn’t the first time they have broken up,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly of the split. “Cardi is single and putting herself out there again. She feels free. He betrayed her so many times. Her friends have been trying to show her that he is not right for her and that she deserved better.”Last month, Cardi seemingly addressed her split from Diggs while on stage at a concert. “Who you playing with, motherf***er?” she said during a tour stopin San Francisco per a video shared via X. “You ain’t never had a bad bitch like this…Never in your motherf***in’ life. None of them bitches f***in’ with me.” Diggs has also recently been engulfed in a legal issue. In December, he was accused of strangling his former personal chef and charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery. Diggs has pleaded not guilty. His attorney, David Meier told Us that Diggs “categorically denies the allegations” against him, adding that the accusations are “unsubstantiated” and fueled by a “financial dispute.”
