TORRANCE, California — Honda Motor Co. announced Wednesday it was recalling 1.7 million Honda and Acura vehicles in the U.S. because of a defective part in the steering gearbox.
A news release from the company says the defect can cause abnormal steering noise, increased steering effort and difficulty, or a “sticky” feeling in the steering. It warns the defect “could result in an increased risk of a crash or injury.
“American Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification,” the news release says. The company says mailed notifications of the recall will begin in November.
