Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick made a strong case to make the team's 53-man roster.
is wide open. With Roman Wilson out, the rest of the backups received more pre-season play than they would have otherwise. Scotty Miller might have been the biggest benefactor of that. However, the close second would be Dez Fitzpatrick, who made as strong a case as anyone to make the 53-man roster., but Fitzpatrick made two special teams tackles and was the best gunner throughout the preseason.
Fitzpatrick works on all coverage units and catches everything thrown his way. More than that, he is a willing blocker on the outside. Someone who has already been around the Steelers locker room for over a year, Fitzpatrick has started to earn his keep in that room by doing the little things. He is far from flashy, but Fitzpatrick does the fundamentals well, and if he can play special teams and block at a high level, he has a spot on the team.against the Lions, too.
It remains to be seen if the Steelers will add someone from the outside to the wide receiver room. Well, it sure does feel like that makes sense. Fitzpatrick will have to wait to see if he does make the final roster, but he has a lot of positive signs pointing in his direction.
