The Pittsburgh Steelers, despite a promising start to the season, have stumbled with three consecutive losses against strong playoff contenders. This recurring pattern of underperformance against top teams has plagued the Steelers since 2019.

This was supposed to be the year that things were a little bit different. They jumped out quickly to a 10-3 lead and it looked like they might be in the driver’s seat to win the AFC North. Yet, three straight losses to legitimate Super Bowl contenders have shown the cracks in Pittsburgh’s foundation.
It would not be an issue if they went 0-3. Honestly, that felt expected. They got battered early in the stretch and were missing multiple top players. However, even when they returned for this game against the The Steelers feel like a team that is a one-and-done contender. Here is the disappointing thing -- this is the same song and dance that the Steelers have pulled off since 2019. They never felt like they had a chance to win a playoff game. Even when they started 11-0 in 2020, their 1-4 stretch to end that season and then the loss to the Cleveland Browns was typical of what this stretch would become. In 2021, it was a blowout at the Chiefs. In 2022, they started 5-8 but rallied to get to 9-8. Even still, they did not make the playoffs because they struggled against good football teams. In 2023, the team fell off a cliff to get to 7-7 and pushed to finish 10-7 under Mason Rudolph, but they lost at the Buffalo Bills., the Steelers could finish 10-7. They will make the playoffs no matter what, as their spot has already been clinched. have not won a playoff since the 2015 season against the Chiefs. That was a game where Chris Boswell used his leg to boot the Steelers into the AFC Championship game where they would lose to the New England Patriots. The worrying thing about this stretch of three games against top teams is that the Steelers can not communicate properly on defense or line up correctly on offense.
