Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who tormented the Browns after they passed on him in the 2004 draft, officially announced his retirement on Thursday in a video posted to social media.

Roethlisberger spent 18 seasons in Pittsburgh, winning two Super Bowls and throwing for over 64,000 yards in his career. The Steelers never had a record below .500 during his career.

The Browns, however, got the best of Roethlisberger in his lone postseason start against them, eliminating the Steelers from the Wild Card round in 2020 with a 48-37 victory that started with an errant snap sailing over Roethlisberger’s head and ended with Roethlisberger sitting forlornly on the bench at Heinz Field with many wondering if that was the end to his career.

The Steelers won Super Bowl XL in Roethlisberger’s second season, a 21-10 victory over the Seahawks at Ford Field in Detroit in which Roethlisberger threw for 123 yards and two interceptions.
