The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting two players for workouts ahead of training camp later this week.
New York Giants offensive tackle Andrew Thomas and center Sean Harlow put a block on New York Jets defensive end Marquiss Spencer in the NFL preseason game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on Saturday, August 26, 2023The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted defensive end Marquiss Spencer and fullback Tory Carter for workouts on Monday ahead of training camp, per the NFL’s transaction report on Monday.
Spencer and Carter both have SEC ties, playing at Mississippi State and LSU, respectively. Both workouts come just two days before the SteelersFor the last three seasons, Spencer has spent time around the New York Jets building, including on their practice squad for the majority of that time. He was a seventh-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. A 6-foot-3, 301 pound defensive end, Spencer has just one total tackle in his NFL career.
Carter is a fullback / running back who has bounced around football. Undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft, he spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with theThe Steelers only have one true fullback on the roster in Jack Colletto, even though offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has heavily used a fullback in his offense in the past. This could one of the first steps in finding a replacement should Colletto get injured.
The Steelers have 90 players on their active roster, but spots can open up due to injury designations over the next few days. The team will report training camp on Wednesday with the first practice taking place on Thursday.
