KENINGAU: Stealing palm oil fruits is the latest tactic of criminals in rural areas as the activity is the biggest contributor to the increase in index crime (CI) in the Keningau district, according to statistics recorded by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Keningau from January 1 to February 29, 2024.

The cooperation of the public with the police however managed to break the activity, despite the crime being classified as popular. Daily Express Malaysia Speaking to Daily Express on Tuesday, Keningau Police Chief Supt Yampil Garai said 12 cases were recorded with Keningau and Nabawan four cases each, Sook and Tambunan .

During that period, there were 15 cases of housebreaking at night, seven motorcycle thefts and one vehicle theft. Based on the breakdown, Keningau and Sook became the target of night-time burglaries with eight and five cases, respectively.
