Health officials are recommending people and pets stay out of the water at three Lake Washington beaches due to high levels of bacteria in recent water samples.

King County said it tests the water at many popular public swimming beaches on Lake Washington, Lake Sammamish, Green Lake, and others. Beaches are typically tested once a week, usually on Monday or Tuesday afternoons, Both Seattle and King County typically review the water test results for bacteria and algae to predict the risk of getting sick from swimming in the water. When there is a risk of getting people sick, King County Public Health recommends that the park department close the beach.
