Statement from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol on the Plane Crash in Statesville, North Carolina.

The N. C. State Highway Patrol Public Information Office issued a statement on the plane crash at Stateville Regional Airport 45 miles outside Charlotte, North Carolina:On Wednesday, December 18, at approximately 10:15 am, members of the State Highway Patrol were notified of an airplane crash at Statesville Regional Airport.

The single airplane crash occurred after the airplane had departed the airport and was immediately returning to the airport on reapproach. The airplane’s tail number was N257BW and is registered to GB Aviation Leasing. We have confirmed that 7 occupants of the airplane are deceased from this crash.The Federal Aviation Administration has been on scene throughout the day and the National Transportation Safety Board will be arriving tomorrow. Members of the State Highway Patrol will continue to secure the scene through the NTSB’s investigative process.Although the post-crash fire prevents us from releasing a definitive list of the occupants at this time, it is believed that Mr. Gregory Biffle and members of his immediate family were occupants of the airplane. We will be able to provide a compiled list on the 7 occupants once confirmation has been made by the medical examiner’s office.Further details related to the investigation would need to be obtained from the NTSB.
