Pennsylvania Education Secretary Noe Ortega responded to lawmakers' calls for releasing the state test scores in a letter sent Wednesday saying they will be released on March 1. File/Mark Pynes | [email protected] months of waiting, the Pennsylvania Department of Education plans to release the 2021 state assessment results next week that are hoped will shine a light on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students’ learning loss.

On Friday, House Speaker Bryan Cutler, R-Lancaster County, and House Education Committee Chairman Curt Sonney, R-Erie County,requesting the release of the scores of the federally mandated exams that are used for accountability purposes. “We appreciate the swift response from PDE,” said Cutler spokesman Mike Straub in response to Ortega’s letter. “The letter confirms the concerns stated in the letter from Chair Sonney and Speaker Cutler are valid.”
