Massachusetts State Police said Wednesday that they have fired Trooper Michael Proctor.

“As Superintendent, my role demands that I do what is in the best interest of the Department. My decision to terminate Mr. Proctor follows a thorough, fair, and impartial process. I have weighed the nature of the offenses, their impact on our investigative integrity, and the importance of safeguarding the reputations of our dedicated women and men in the State Police," Col. Geoffrey Noble said. "I really don't see where Col. Noble had any other decision to make other than termination or to accept the recommendation from the trial board. Michael Proctor testified under oath of conduct that is not in alignment with state police rules and regulations," said Todd McGhee, a former Massachusetts state trooper.and the investigation that he sent to families and friends. Read is charged in the death of her Boston Police Officer boyfriend John O'Keefe. Trial board documents say his conduct created an image that he was biased in his dealings with a homicide suspect and/or brought himself and state police into disrepute. "Anytime you see this type of behavior coming from public safety, you know, regardless of the agency, you know, the general public is, the trust is going to wane," McGhee said.His family said in statement sent to NBC 10 News: "We are truly disappointed with the trial board’s decision as it lacks precedent, and unfairly exploits and scapegoats one of their own, a trooper with a 12-year unblemished record." Proctor is a potential witness for both sides in the second trial. Read's team has him on a list of 91 names that could be called. "I've never seen anything like this, not to mention on such a high-profile case," McGhee said. "When you have the lead investigator that will be testifying as Mr. Proctor instead of Trooper Proctor, that obviously is going to give some level of advantage to the defense."
