Team lost in Div. II championship game, but with that came experience for next year
For Bonita Vista High girls basketball coach Tristan Lamb, being the only San Diego Section team to appear in the state championships this winter meant a lot of things.
“Our motto from midseason on was to not stop playing until there were no more games to play, and we did that.” “Going 10 days without a game waiting was not good,” said Lamb, who will try to persuade the San Diego Section to consider some out-bracket games among first-round losers to keep sharp the teams that will advance.
In rapid succession they beat four straight Southern Section teams, including an 80-67 win over Lawndale Leuzinger in the SoCal championship, averaging 76.5 points a game while playing stellar defense. Among those teams BV beat was Temecula’s Rancho Christian, coached by former Bishop’s girls coach Marlon Wells, 70-69.
