Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle emphasized throughout his speech the measure of “quality of life.”
“If your job moves to Huntsville, we want you to know we care about your quality of life,” Battle said. “We’re making a lot of investments to prove it. Quality of life affects us all. It’s very hard to wrap your arms around when you can ride the bike down and see a greenway and that’s quality of life. You can meet some friends on pickleball court, it’s quality of life. Quality of Life may lead you to travel a new road or take a familiar one that’s been made new again.
There were no dramatic announcements made in the speech, no revelations that were previously secret. But even known successes strung together in a single presentation resonated anew. Battle, for example, pointed to thecampus in Cummings Research Park. “This school will educate, train and prepare the next generation of animated thinkers. Their students will someday solve the problems of tomorrow and possibly even take center stage at our National Cyber Summit that is held right here in Huntsville, Alabama.”– a second phase of a cost-sharing initiative with the state to fast-track road construction projects.
“We’re not just building for our children, but we’re building for generations to come,” Battle said. “Knowing who we are and what we want and how we get there and doing so together. That ‘together’ is a big, big word. That’s the secret to our success. The secret to being the star of Alabama.
