After 750 days, South Africa has lifted the national state of disaster. However, these “transitional” regulations will remain for the next 30 days.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that South Africa will lift the state of disaster from 00:00 on Tuesday, 5 April 2022.

“These conditions no longer require that we remain in a national state of disaster,” Ramaphosa stated. An employer may not allow any employee to perform any duties or enter the employment premises if the employee is not wearing a face mask while performing their duties. No person will be allowed to enter or be in a building, place or premises, including government buildings, places or premises, used by the public to obtain goods or services, if they are not wearing a face mask.

The suspension comes more than two years after the government first implemented the state of disaster to help curb the spread of Covid-19.
