On the first Sunday of the NFL’s 2025 season, 29 players from Alabama high schools and colleges (not including Alabama and Auburn) got on the field.

Jayden Daniels, the Commanders QB on Sunday, ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries in a 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 8, 2024. In the Commanders’ 21-6 victory over the New York Giants to kick off the 2025 season, Croskey-Merritt needed only 10 carries to reach 82 yards, thanks to a 42-yard run that got Washington off its 5-yard line in the fourth quarter. The seventh-round draft pick scored his first NFL touchdown on a 6-yard run with 6:14 left in the first half.Croskey-Merritt was among the 29 players from Alabama high schools and colleges who got on the field on the first Sunday of the NFL’s 106th season.Cor’Dale Flott started at cornerback for the Giants. Flott made two tackles and broke up one pass.Giants defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches made one tackle.Commanders offensive tackle Trent Scott was designated as a game-day inactive. Jameis Winston was designated as the Giants’ emergency third quarterback. He could play only if Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart could not.Falcons cornerback Cobee Bryant is on the practice squad and not eligible to play. Buccaneers wide receiver Tez Johnson was targeted once but did not have a reception in his first NFL game. Johnson joined Tampa Bay in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on April 26. Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney was designated as a game-day inactive. Mooney has been a limited participant in practice because of a shoulder injury.Browns linebacker Mohamoud Diabate made two tackles on defense and one on special teams.Bengals defensive end Cedric Johnson is on injured reserve and not eligible to play. Browns running back Quinshon Judkins did not play. A second-round pick in the NFL Draft on April 25, Judkins signed his rookie contract on Saturday. Bengals kicker Evan McPherson made his three kicks, with his 35-yard field goal with 2:48 remaining in the third quarter lifting Cincinnati to a 17-16 lead. McPherson also made two extra points while Cleveland had a missed PAT in the game. Cam Taylor-Britt started at cornerback for the Bengals. Taylor-Britt made one tackle.Indianapolis Colts 33, Miami Dolphins 8Riley Leonard was designated as the Colts’ emergency third quarterback. He could play only if Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson could not.Josh Hines-Allen started at defensive end for the Jaguars. Hines-Allen registered one quarterback hit. Mike Jackson started at cornerback for the Panthers. Jackson made four tackles, recorded one tackle for loss and broke up one pass.Jaguars defensive back Caleb Ransaw is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.Las Vegas Raiders 20, New England Patriots 13 Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones made four tackles, recorded one tackle for loss, broke up one pass and returned two punts for 16 yards.Patriots wide receiver Jeremiah Webb is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.Saints running back Velus Jones Jr. returned two kickoffs for 40 yards.Cardinals cornerback Starling Thomas V is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.Steelers punter Corliss Waitman averaged 47.5 yards on four punts, with a 42.8-yard net. Waitman had a 44-yard punt for a fair catch at the New York 26-yard line, a 50-yarder for a fair catch at the New York 16, a 50-yarder returned 19 yards to the New York 32 and a 46-yarder returned 3 yards to the New York 34 . Quincy Williams started at linebacker for the Jets. Williams tied for the team lead with six tackles and recorded the 10th sack of his career.Broncos cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine made one tackle on special teams. Titans guard Clay Webb is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.Seahawks safety A.J. Finley is on injured reserve and not eligible to play. Forty-Niners defensive end Bryce Huff did not record any stats in his first game with San Francisco. The Philadelphia Eagles traded Huff to the 49ers on June 2.Forty-Niners cornerback Siran Neal did not record any stats.Green Bay Packers 27, Detroit Lions 13 Lions linebacker Zach Cunningham did not record any stats in his first game with Detroit.Jake Andrews started at center for the Texans after missing the 2024 season because of an injury.Texans wide receiver Tank Dell is on the physically-unable-to-perform list and not eligible to play.Kamari Lassiter started at cornerback for the Texans. Lassiter led Houston with nine tackles. Rams outside linebacker Jamil Muhammad is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.Texans safety Jimmie Ward is on the Commissioner Exempt List and not eligible to play.Bills offensive tackle Tylan Grable is on injured reserve and not eligible to play. Ravens offensive tackle Carson Vinson was designated as a game-day inactive. Vinson joined Baltimore in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on April 26.Week 1 concludes on Monday, when the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears square off at 7:15 p.m. CDT at Soldier Field in Chicago.
