The state of Utah is looking into the development of de-escalation training for its teachers, responding to a rising demand for handling students with severe be
havioral issues and preventing potential injuries within classrooms.
The state said in its solicitation: Schools face a growing challenge in meeting both the academic and behavioral needs of all students. Schools should utilize data-driven, multi-tiered academic and behavioral supports to improve educational outcomes for every student they serve. Local Education Agencies have indicated that there is a greater need of support for students with severe behaviors.
The Utah State Board of Education outlines that the proposed training will include eight hours of live workshops, supplemented with workbooks and a certification to attest the participants' competence.
