Dallas-Fort Worth this year has seen one of the driest first six months on record, according to the National Weather Service.Hojun ChoiHistorically dry conditions in Texas are putting state and local fire officials on alert for an increased risk of fires this July 4 weekend, typically one of the busiest times for emergency crews.

The bans do not prohibit fireworks, though the usual city and county rules about fireworks would still apply. But fireworks can pose a high risk of wildfires if people are not responsible. First responders are concerned that the dry conditions will add to the existing increased risk of fires from fireworks.

Sarah Barnes, a National Weather Service meteorologist said the first six months of this year have been the 19th driest first half of the year on record, which goes back to 1899.
