DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF)--
DAYTON, Ohio -- According to the National Fire Protection Association, the risk of dying in a house fire is decreased by 60% when there are working smoke alarms. That's why as daylight savings comes to an end, the state fire marshal's office has reminded everyone this is a great time to check those alarms before tragedy strikes.
"I actually don't like it. It gets dark a lot earlier and I think that affects people's moods, it affects our ability for activity," said Rhonda Risner, Dayton resident. "You need to have one at every floor, in every room, and in main hallways," said Anita Metheny with the state fire marshal's office.
“I just got them all replaced a couple months ago, so I think it's a good idea to check those annually, so daylight savings time is a nice reminder to do that," said Risner.
