FILE - A relief sculpture rests on a gate to the entrance of Harvard University, in Cambridge, Mass., March 13, 2016. The State Department on Friday ordered “additional vetting” of all visa applicants linked to Harvard University, according to Reuters.

Trump administration officials last week revoked the school’s ability to host international students, though a federal judge halted that decision Thursday. Despite this, the State Department is now calling for heightened scrutiny of students applying for visas to travel to Harvard for any reason. Among those who will potentially be impacted by the decision are “prospective students, students, faculty, employees, contractors, guest speakers, and tourists,” the publication wrote. The State Department reportedly justified its decision by accusing the school of repeatedly failing to combat antisemitism on campus. Neither Harvard nor the State Department responded to a request for comment from The National News Desk about the decision. Harvard told TNND it believes the Trump administration’s attempt to limit international applicants violates the law. "The government’s action is unlawful," a spokesperson wrote via email "We are fully committed to maintaining Harvard’s ability to host international students and scholars, who hail from more than 140 countries and enrich the University – and this nation – immeasurably. We are working quickly to provide guidance and support to members of our community. This retaliatory action threatens serious harm to the Harvard community and our country, and undermines Harvard’s academic and research mission.” The State Department’s move is the latest in a series of attacks by the Trump administration targeting the Ivy League institution. President Donald Trump has paused approximately $2.2 billion in federal funding to the school so far and has ordered the government to cancel all remaining contracts with the school.Jackson Walker on X at @_jlwalker_ for the latest trending national news.
