Evidence leader Paul Pretorius on Monday told inquiry chairperson Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo that the claims which first surfaced on May 17, 2016 were under investigation. During his testimony, McBride said he stood by the joint statement of three years ago that there appeared to be “remarkable coincidence in the methods used to remove officials from these institutions, the players involved and their intersecting interests”.
McBride said after the information was leaked, the institution in question would launch an “investigation” into the accused officials “using news reports as a pretext”, before leaking the results of these same investigations to journalists. “Where matters went to court, courts consistently found in favour of the affected officials, with cost orders against their institutions, only for them to be suspended again and investigated on a new slate of allegations.”
