Ohio Auditor Keith Faber’s office said the MetroHealth board did not effectively oversee bonus payments to former CEO Dr. Akram Boutros. CLEVELAND, Ohio — After a nearly two-year investigation, the state auditor said it was inconclusive whether former MetroHealth CEO Dr. Akram Boutros received unauthorized bonuses totaling $1.9 million.
The special audit and investigation also found that the board did not effectively oversee the CEO’s compensation, the report said. The MetroHealth board of trustees said in a statement that while the auditor’s report did not find evidence of a crime, it said it believed the audit did lay out facts making it clear that “the board acted properly in terminating Boutros for cause and recouping millions of dollars in unauthorized bonus payments,”
