The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency teamed up with Mobile Police Department and fire departments in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores to keep roads and waterways safe. MPD also partnered with the Alabama Department of Transportation as part of their year-round efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly on interstates.
Locally, MPD responded to a total of 29 crashes over the weekend; resulting in multiple injuries and the death of one pedestrian. Lt. Angle says he did not notice a significant spike or dip in crashes or fatalities in comparison to other busy holidays like Fourth of July or Memorial Day. ALEA’s efforts went beyond traffic safety. The agency’s aviation unit teamed up with Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Fire Rescue for the rescue swimmer detail, deploying swimmers from helicopters to assist those in distress. The unit completed 12 patrol flights and responded to a call for a missing diver. Thankfully, that person was found before help arrived.
