The Brazilians qualified for the last eight the past Saturday with a 5-2 thumping of Al Ahly SC and furthermore jumped to the top of the group.
Sundowns continued to prove their superiority in all competitions through a 5-1 annihilation of Royal AM in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday and stretchered closer to a sixth successive title. Back-to-back wins over Cameroon’s Coton Sport revived Hilal’s chances to make it out of the group and prior to Sundowns hosting Ahly, they sat at the summit of the group standings.
Like Masandawana, the host are top of the Sudanese Premier League and just edged Manama 3-0 in the first-leg of the Arab Champions Cup in their last match on Monday. It took an early strike from Cassius Mailula to hand the Brazilians victory over their Sudanese counterparts when the two met in the group stage opener last month.
