The world’s most powerful rocket, SpaceX’s Starship, aced another major milestone on the road to operational launches.

Space X’s Starship is the world’s most powerful rocket. It is also the largest, standing at 121 meters tall. The massive Mars rocket lifted off from Space X’s Starbase facility in southern Texas at 7:50 am CT .

The reentry burn allowed the massive rocket to splash down softly in the Indian Ocean. Crucially, that soft splashdown showed that Starship should be able to land in the near future. The rocket was designed to be fully reusable. The goal is to drive down the cost of repeated launches to the point that crewed Mars missions are economically feasible.of the fully integrated Starship launch system, on April 20 last year, ended with a manually triggered explosion shortly after take off. Every subsequent flight test has gone slightly further.

According to SpaceX’s launch webcast commentators, this is a temporary measure – future iterations of Starship will include a lightweight interstage that will remain attached to the spacecraft.Roughly seven minutes after launch, Starship’s Super Heavy first stage performed a soft landing in the Pacific Ocean. This is the first time Super Heavy has returned and performed a soft splashdown.
